Saved From TV

Amos 8:11: Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

2 Timothy 3:1-4, 7, 13: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

A famine from hearing the words of the Lord is what causes evil men to wax worse and worse and those things are happening before our very eyes.

Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

John 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Men are not hiding the word of God in their hearts and they are not being sanctified (set apart from sinners). The Bible has been largely replaced in our society in two ways. There are a multitude of translations of the Bible that have not slowed the downhill moral skid. The Bible has also been replaced by TV and a multitude of electronic devices. Chronologically, these things are happening at the same time.

Children aged 2-11 watch over 24 hours of TV per week, while adults aged 35-49 watch more than 33 hours, according to data from Nielsen that suggests TV time increases the older we get. The average American watches more than five hours of live television every day.

Adults in the US will spend an average of 5 hours, 31 minutes watching video each day this year, according to new figures from eMarketer, and digital video viewing across devices is driving growth.

My personal withdrawal from TV has been slow. My dependence upon it was overcome gradually. I wish it had been cold turkey. In that sense I was not a very wise Christian. Turning the TV off has produced far greater blessings in my life than I could have imagined. There are a multitude of better things we can do with our time than TV and electronics. Many unbelievers are hopelessly addicted to those things but God wants to help believers to free themselves from their chains. He wants them to immerse themselves in His word and serving Him. He wants to give them a more abundant life.

John 10:10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

I am thankful that the Lord has given me an increasing distaste for the TV of the world and an increasing appreciation for His TV programming. There won*t be any TV in Heaven. And life on earth gets more Heavenly without it. Are you willing to be saved from the anti-God TV programming? Do you want Him to remove whatever comes between you and Him?
